4 Things Girls Think About Trying Boxing

The majority of women who consider joining my club are nervous to get started. They have a million thoughts going through their minds about why they shouldn’t attempt something like boxing. Most have never boxed before and their fears limit them from seeing themselves as a boxer. So let’s just put it out there…here are 4 Things Girls Think About Trying Boxing…and the truth! 

1. I’m gonna look like an idiot. Most girls worry that they will look totally stupid when they box for tDSC03402-Edit-Edit_copyhe first time. Truth is you’ll probably look like you don’t know what you are doing, but that’s because you don’t. And it’s okay! You will get better with practice. Everyone started off not having a clue what they were doing and looking a bit awkward, but over time started to look and feel like a boxer and you will too! 

2. These girls are gonna be cliquey and bitchy. Most girls worry that walking into an all women’s gym is going to be reminiscent of not having someone to sit with a lunch or not getting picked in gym class. Truth is at Knockout we are all about community and creating a supportive, friendly environment. The members know what it’s like to be the new girl and will welcome you and show you the ropes.

3. I’m a wuss and weak I can’t box. Most girls worry they are too weak, girly or uncoordinated to box. And while boxing does take coordination and strength, both of those things can be developed. Truth is at Knockout you will learn to unleash your inner badass. With structured workouts and your desire to get it right, even if you aren’t super strong now, just wait!

4. I’m too overweight or out of shape to box. Most girls are scared they won’t fit in and can’t handle the training. They fear they are will be in a group of these “superfit”, ripped, badass boxer chicks and not be able to hang. Truth is Knockouts come in all shapes and sizes. And you can pace yourself during the workout, so you can effectively progress and feel successful.

All my Knockouts will tell you, “Just push fear aside, give Knockout a try and you’ll be hooked!” You will never think you are fit enough, in shape enough, small enough, strong enough, ___ enough to get started, so you just gotta do it anyways! Knockout is about building confidence. And to build confidence you must overcome challenges. Your first challenge is to overcome those fears in your mind that tell you you can’t do this and prove yourself wrong!
