Coach Jess' August 2014 Favorites

Summer is coming to a close, can you believe it's already September?! As much as I am sad to say goodbye to summer, I'm looking forward to September (my bday month and Knockout's anniversary month) and Fall.  Gotta love hoodies, mochas, and of course Blackhawks Hockey!

August was a great month and here were my favorite things in the month of August:

  1. Coconut Oil (Trader Joes, $5.99).  This product does it all! I used it as sunscreen this summer.  I use it as a nighttime moisturizer and my new favorite way to use this is in my hair for a moisturizing treatment.  Yep oil up all your hair and let it sit for 30 minutes are longer and wash it out.  Shiny, silky, smooth.  I'm looking forward to seeing how this improves my hair with more use.
  2. Meghan Trainor's "All About That Bass".  A-MA-ZING! Best. Song. Ever. This should be the Knockout anthem.  "Cause every inch of you is perfect from the bottom to the top"!
  3. Emerald and Ash Cuticle Oil 4mL/3 pack ($6.50).  I love doing my own manicures and keeping my cuticles moisturized.  This month I haven't worn much nail polish so keeping the cuticles looking good was key for me! This totally yummy scented, awesome cuticle oil is affordable too! And you can pick your scents! I have Toasted Marshmallow, Vanilla Champagne, and Buttered Popcorn.
  4. Makeup Geek Eye Shadows ($5.99).  I LOVE Makeup Geek Eyeshadows! Super pigmented and blendable at a great price.  My current favorite colors:  Peach Smoothie, Frappe, and Creme Brûlée.
  5. KO LOVE Tank. This new flowy LOVE tank is great to workout it or represent with jeans on when you are out and about! (unfortunately its currently sold out). Don't forget all current KO Apparel is 30% OFF for Auto-pay members and 10% OFF for everyone else throughout September!
  6. SO Hipster Panties (Kohl's, 5 for $20).  It was time for some new undies! Actually it was a big step for me because I needed to go up a size.  No matter who you are or your body type/size when your body changes it takes getting use to.  And now that I have some new undies that fit great I feel so much better! It's the little things.  Dress your body comfortably and you will feel better!
  7. 1.5 Rep Hip Thrusts.  OUCH! This version of the hip thrust gets some hella glute activation going! I couldn't find a good video for this, but just think full range hip thrust followed moving hips half way down then right back up...that's 1 rep!
  8. Saddle Room's Spanish Bruschetta ($10.95).  Matt and I love this restaurant! Cozy, rustic decor, great drinks and amazing food! Their Spanish Bruschetta is to die for!
  9. Dave Ramsey's Total Money Makeover ($12.99 Kindle or $14.99 hardcover)  Besides understanding our relationship to each other, food and our bodies, I also love gaining knowledge about our relationship with money.  I am currently working hard at increasing my financial freedom and totally recommend this book to anyway looking to do the same.
  10. Goodbudget App (FREE).  Budgeting is key to financial freedom and Dave Ramsey's envelope system really makes you think about where your money goes.  Since I don't deal much in cash the envelope system was a bit too much for me to work in, so a great alternative has been using this app to make "envelopes" and track what I spend money in various categories.  And when that "envelope" is empty its done!
  11. Pergo XP Highland Hickory.  My new floors! (Home Depot).  Finally after saving and thanks to my awesome boyfriend for spending 2.5 days laying them I got my new floors upstairs in my house.  Bye bye yucky old carpet, hello nice floors and increased home value!
  12. Southport, NC.  Love this place! Just went on a short vacation there with Matt and we had a great time.  Beaches are beautiful! It's a cute, quite little town with lots of charm and was just what I needed to end the summer! Thanks to Teresa, Carmen and Annmarie for keeping the gym going strong while I took a needed break!
